SWaMP2008 is governed by a Joint Committee made up of two elected members from each of its eight member Councils.

The Joint Committee consists of equal representation from each council, subject to a maximum of 16 for the purpose of implementing the policies set out in the Waste Management Plan or any amendments to the Plan.

The Joint Committee is also responsible for appointing its own Chair and Vice Chair, these positions are currently held by Pearse McAleer, SF, Cookstown District Council (Chair) and John Campbell, SDLP, Armagh City & District Council (Vice Chair).
